Studies show what we know as the Sahara Desert was once a lush rainforests |
Grownnews: Washington DC - According
to a study published recently in the journal Science Advances, evidence
suggests that the Sahara desert has experienced a wet period around 8,000 years
ago. This indicates, once the Sahara desert is an area that is lush and green.
Through
the analysis of marine sediments, researchers at the University of Arizona
found that the pattern of rainfall during the year 6000 in the Sahara showed
interesting results. The team led by UA has identified climate pattern in the
Sahara at the time turned out to have rainfall 10 times more than today. Apparently,
what is now the Sahara desert were once dense green forest that is home to wild
animals and plants. It happened in the 5000-11000 years ago.
"It
used 10 times wetter wetter than it is today," said study leader from the
University of Arizona, Jessica Tierney as quoted from Ancientcodes. Interestingly,
archaeological evidence suggests that humans who occupied the Sahara during wet
periods, gradually left around 8,000 years ago. When the Sahara was dry, people
flocked to leave.
"The
amazing thing is people coming back after a long dry period, bringing different
cultures. The dry period separated two cultures did not like," said
Jessica.
